Chapter transcript
- 01:29:31 A whistleblower,
- 01:29:34 Dr Rick Bright,
- 01:29:36 who was asked by his superiors to work on establishing an FDA-expanded access investigational new drug protocol.
- 01:29:47 But his insubordination,
- 01:29:49 he instead went to Janet Woodcock and people in the FDA and got the emergency use authorization,
- 01:29:55 which sounds like,
- 01:29:56 "Hey,
- 01:29:56 we're going to expand the use of this." He dramatically restricted the use of hydroxychloroquine only in hospital,
- 01:30:02 when I think we all recognize it's probably not particularly effective,
- 01:30:06 possibly dangerous,
- 01:30:07 and only out of the national stockpile.
- 01:30:09 He knew what he was doing.
- 01:30:11 That's what poisoned the well.
- 01:30:12 That's what created what I've called the prescription logjam here on hydroxychloroquine.
- 01:30:17 I think it affected all early treatment options.
- 01:30:20 It took them off the table.
- 01:30:22 We took our eye off the ball.
- 01:30:23 That's why I say our agencies failed us.
