Chapter transcript
  1. 01:08:49 the head of BARDA was someone named Rick Bright.
  2. 01:08:52 And now we're at the point where we have to identify some of the most important
  3. 01:08:56 people responsible for working in the background to make sure that you
  4. 01:09:00 couldn't have access to hydroxychloroquine when you needed it the most.
  5. 01:09:04 BARDA appears to be staffed primarily by PhDs,
  6. 01:09:08 not medical doctors.
  7. 01:09:09 These are people who do not treat patients.
  8. 01:09:12 So why did BARDA request a drug that was saving lives get removed from an emergency use authorization and do so in a way that terrorized doctors,
  9. 01:09:22 hospitals,
  10. 01:09:22 and pharmacies from prescribing it at any point in disease?
  11. 01:09:26 To understand that,
  12. 01:09:28 we need to go back in time to the beginning of the pandemic and the actions taken by the former director of BARDA,
  13. 01:09:33 Rick Bright.
  14. 01:09:34 You know,
  15. 01:09:36 I wish I'd never heard of hydroxychloroquine,
  16. 01:09:41 honestly.
  17. 01:09:43 As head of BARDA,
  18. 01:09:44 Rick Bright was responsible for developing new therapies and working with pharmaceutical companies.
  19. 01:09:49 When the Trump administration miraculously obtained tens of millions of doses of hydroxychloroquine,
  20. 01:09:54 Rick,
  21. 01:09:54 his team at BARDA,
  22. 01:09:56 and members of the FDA sabotaged efforts to release hydroxychloroquine to the citizens of the United States during a time of national emergency.
  23. 01:10:04 When Rick Bright's efforts to obstruct the release of hydroxychloroquine failed,
  24. 01:10:09 he leaked emails to the press and was subsequently removed from his position at BARDA.
  25. 01:10:14 Rick then claimed he was a whistleblower and testified before a congressional subcommittee headed by Congressman Anna Eshoo,
  26. 01:10:20 whose district is mere blocks away from Gilead,
